Publication of the Study "Undernourishment and Poverty Thresholds in Turkey for June 2021

The undernourishment threshold is 2801 TL. Memur-sen Confederation produces a monthly study entitled: "Undernourishment and Poverty Thresholds in Turkey". According to this study, the undernourishment threshold for a family of 4 people is estimated at 2,801 TL (320 usd), while the poverty threshold is 8003 TL (920 usd).
According to the study conducted by the Memur-Sen confederation, the average price of foodstuffs increased by +0.21% in July 2021 compared to June 2021. Among the most striking increases in the month of July, we note the price of margarine +10.98%, butchery + 8.3%, ready meals +7.11%. Among the most significant decreases are: garlic -28.18%, eggplant - 17.62%, tomatoes -15.31%, peppers -12.23%.
Heating fuels increased by +0.96% compared to the previous month, while the housing price index increased by +0.88% compared to June.
Price index for stationery, office and school supplies and recreational goods
In June, the average price of stationery items increased +2.39%. Prices for children's books were up +8.54%, and prices for leisure travel were up +51.6%.
Cleaning and personal hygiene items
Prices for cleaning and personal hygiene items rose by +3.15%. Among the most striking price increases are cosmetic items +14.6%, and soap with +0.7%. Among the decreases, we note that of soap - 0.7%.
Communication items
Compared to May, the average change in prices of communication equipment in June resulted in an increase of +1.57%. It was observed that the most striking changes in the prices of communication items compared to May were the repair of telephones with an increase of +3.6% and the prices of spare parts for telephones with an increase of +3.22%.
Textiles/Clothing
In June, an average increase of +2.55% in clothing prices was observed compared to May. The most striking changes in clothing prices compared to May were shirts with a +6.53% increase, jackets with a +5.56% increase, and suits with a +4.69% increase. However, a decrease was observed in prices of tracksuits with a decrease of -0.99 percent and prices of footwear items -0.28%.
Transportation
It was determined that there was a +2.28% increase in prices for transportation materials in June compared to May. The most striking changes compared to May were noted in car rental fees with an increase of +12.37% and in intercity bus tickets +9.67%. However, a decrease was observed in the prices paid for vehicle repair and maintenance with a decrease of -0.56% compared to May.
An average increase in prices of health items of + 1.18% was observed in June compared to May, noting among the most striking changes that of prices of hospital beds with an increase of 2.28% and surgical procedures with an increase of 1.98%.
Finally, the prices of construction items recorded an average increase of +4.51% . Among the most striking increases is that of tiles with an increase of +9.63%.
