Memur-Sen Vice President Hacı Bayram Tonbul and his delegation attended the 14th Ordinary General Congress of the National Union of Malian Workers (UNTM) in the capital city of Mali, Bamako, on April 26-27.
Delivering a speech at the 14th Ordinary General Congress of the National Union of Malian Workers (UNTM), Tonbul emphasized the universality of labor and solidarity, stating, “Based on the belief that labor is universal and solidarity should also be universal, we see ourselves in a position of responsibility for all workers wherever they may be in the world. To fight for a strong and just world, to increase the value of labour and to create a work environment worthy of human dignity, we must expand solidarity and make the most of our opportunities for cooperation.”
Tonbul emphasizes the importance of unity and solidarity, stating that despite geographical and national differences, the problems faced by workers worldwide are very similar. These include inflation, unemployment, low wages, poor working conditions, unfair taxation, and unjust income distribution. He asserts that the world, controlled by a small minority of capital elites, can no longer generate consent, and the need for a paradigm shift is growing every day as masses are pushed into poverty.
Drawing attention to the humanitarian crises in Gaza and East Turkistan, Tonbul highlights the institutionalization of injustice and the threat posed to humanity's future by wars. He points out that imperialism, whether directly or indirectly through proxies, exacerbates bloodshed and tears. Tonbul stresses the urgent need for peace and brotherhood in the face of increasing violence and conflict.
He concludes by underscoring the significance of unity and solidarity, emphasizing that by coming together, people can defend their rights, ensure justice, and strive for a better future.
In the Congress, the current Secretary-General, Yacouba Katilé, is reaffirmed with unanimous support in the congress vote.
