Memur-Sen Women’s Commission held the 2nd Turkey Meeting
10.01.24, Wednesday
The Women’s Commission of Memur-Sen held its 2nd Turkey Meeting with great enthusiasm. The program, which was attended by the Minister of Family and Social Services, Mahinur Özdemir Göktaş, emphasized the active role of women in the development of Turkey and organized strength.
In the program, addressing the women organization members, President Yalçın began his speech by commemorating Mehmet Akif İnan on the 24th anniversary of his passing. Congratulating the Women’s Commission of Memur-Sen, which carried many significant campaigns and events, including aid campaigns organized after the earthquakes on February 6 and the Diyarbakır meeting for the innocent people in Gaza, Yalçın expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the leaders, managers, and leader women responsible for the highest level of participation in every action and event.
We combined our strength with our compassion
Sıdıka Aydın, the Chairwoman of the Memur-Sen Women’s Commission, who delivered the opening speech of the program, reminded that both the world and Turkey left behind a challenging year. Aydın said, “The earthquake in Turkey not only took lives or destroyed buildings; Many stories disappeared or remained incomplete under the rubble... As Memur-Sen, as soon as we heard the news, we first moved to the field with our search and rescue teams. We initiated a nationwide mobilization for both material and cash aid. With Women-to-Women Aid Packages, we combined our union strength with our compassion throughout Turkey. We shared our homes and food; we became a source of hope for our bleeding wounds... While the wounds of the earthquake are still ongoing, we have another bleeding wound named Palestine. We live in a world where children are not safe. We are facing one of the dirtiest wars in history and humanity.”
Sıdıka Aydın emphasized that, as the Women’s Commission, in addition to participating in various campaigns, meetings, and activities against Zionist Israel, they have initiated a general boycott on the production and companies associated with Israel.
We did not accept anything that harms the family
Aydın emphasized that as the Women’s Commission, they will raise the voice against any kind of violence and discrimination. “The brutal killing of a woman by her divorcing husband in front of her child ….The forced marriage of a 13-year-old girl… A teacher subjected to parental violence, a healthcare worker experiencing violence from a family member… The discrimination faced by every woman striving to be active and influential in society… all this are issues that we should deal with” she said.
