Memur-Sen protests before UN office in Ankara: UN are you sleeping? Don’t you hear the voice of Palestine?
02.05.24, Thursday
Memur-Sen, held a press conference in front of the UN office in Ankara to protest the ineffectiveness of the UN in achieving a permanent solution in Gaza, where thousands of civilians are facing genocide. Following the statement made by President Ali Yalçın, a black wreath was placed in front of the UN office.
Yalçın, speaking during the protest, said, "On the occasion of May 1st, we stand before the UN to express solidarity with our working brothers and sisters in Gaza, to honor the memory of those who have been killed, to put an end to the ongoing genocide in Gaza and occupation in Palestine. We are here because every day the UN and the international community fail to halt the genocide, the situation becomes more horrifying, and the brutality escalates. The brutality is so immense that the news and images are chilling. We see people being buried alive, their bodies torn apart by bulldozers, and murdered in custody through torture.”
“Israel is committing the crime of genocide.”
"They are using phosphorus bombs, which are considered war crimes. They are targeting civilian areas: hospitals, ambulances, healthcare workers, aid workers, water wells, generators, press, hotels, schools, educators, and politicians. They are hitting places that are directly monitored by the UN: killing those gathered for aid, bombing marketplaces, destroying civilian infrastructure, obstructing humanitarian aid, and not allowing access to electricity, water, and food. While committing mass killings, they are also causing famine and hunger, blocking access to health care, refusing treatment to the injured, targeting mass deaths, and not hiding any of these actions—all of which the entire world is witnessing live. Israel, organized as a state terror is violating humanitarian law, committing genocide and war crimes. It is violating the first Geneva Convention for the Amelioration of the Condition of the Wounded and Sick in Armed Forces in the Field, the third Geneva Convention relative to the Treatment of Prisoners of War and the Fourth Geneva Convention relative to the Protection of Civilian Persons in Time of War, as well as the Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide, which recognizes crimes committed with the intent to destroy, in whole or in part, a national, ethnic, racial, or religious group. Israel is committing genocide and other crimes against humanity in front of the whole world. It must be immediately stopped. Otherwise, the already weakened faith and trust in the UN and other international institutions that make up the international community will completely collapse.”
Yalçın: We call on the UN to stop the terrorist state.
Yalçın emphasized the need for the restructuring of the UN Security Council, warning that otherwise, global banditry. “The UN should take action, must fulfill its duty and stop the horrific brutality and genocide in Gaza. As Memur-Sen, on the occasion of May 1st, we call on the entire international community to take concrete steps to stop the "terrorist state" and to stop the genocide in Gaza.
We send a thousand greetings to the resistance of Gaza, from Ankara. Damn Zionist Israel! Damn American Imperialism! Damn the Collaborative Genocide Alliance! Damn the Global Gang!
Long live Free Palestine! Long live our Gaza Resistance! Long live the Global Intifada!”
“They do not protect the oppressed”
Speaking before UN Ankara office, Fawzi Ahmad Sha'ban Sha'ban, Member of the Board of Directors of the Palestinian General Federation of Trade Unions, criticized the UN for turning a blind eye to the attacks of Zionist Israel and not taking action, stating, “I condemn this structure that always takes the side of the powerful and does not protect the oppressed and the innocent. As labor unions, we have always supported each other and will continue to do so. I express my gratitude to Memur-Sen organization and its President Ali Yalçın for always extending a helping hand and supporting us”
