MEMUR-SEN
Visit from the General Federation of Jordanian Trade Unions to Memur-Sen
28.07.25, Monday
Memur-Sen Confederation President Ali Yalçın and Vice President Hamza Öksüz hosted a delegation led by Khaled Abu Marjoub, Vice President of the General Federation of Jordanian Trade Unions (GFJTU), at the Memur-Sen headquarters.
During the meetings with the GFJTU delegation, one of the founding members of the International Labour Confederation (ILC), discussions focused on the challenges facing the labour movement at both regional and global levels, the future of trade union solidarity, and potential areas for joint action.
The meeting covered a range of topics, including strengthening trade union solidarity, institutionalizing bilateral cooperation, sharing experiences from collective bargaining processes, planning joint training programs, and developing collaborative projects. Global injustice, neoliberal pressures, job security issues, and human rights violations in occupied Palestine were among the key agenda items.
Yalçın: Solidarity is very important to us
In his remarks during the meeting, President Ali Yalçın emphasized that the labour struggle is not limited to wage and rights demands, stating, “Labour is also the defense of justice, peace, and human dignity around the world. Today, the people of Palestine are facing a genocide, and the labour movement must raise the strongest voice against this unjust order. Solidarity with brotherly organizations like GFJTU, which maintain a principled stance, is extremely valuable to us.”
Khaled Abu Marjoub: We want to strengthen our cooperation
GFJTU Vice President Khaled Abu Marjoub stated that they closely follow Memur-Sen’s principled union struggle both nationally and internationally, saying, “Your experience in collective bargaining, your organizational strength, and especially the examples of solidarity you have shown in times of crisis are valuable references for us. We want to act together in struggles for regional and global justice, especially in the cause of Palestine.”
Öksüz: We are building a new union model
Memur-Sen Vice President and Secretary General of the International Labour Confederation (ILC) Hamza Öksüz said in his statement:
“ILC brings together labour organizations from different regions around an egalitarian, participatory, and principled understanding of solidarity. GFJTU being one of the founding partners of this structure is highly meaningful for the future of this new union model we are building together. We are determined to take more concrete steps in areas such as joint training programs, digitalization, and empowering young and female workers.”
