09.05.24, Thursday
The Workshop and Panel on Women's Labor in the Turkish Century, organized in collaboration between the Memur-Sen Women's Commission and the Hak-İş Women's Committee, took place at the Memur-Sen Headquarters. The event focused on the rights, expectations, and opportunities of women workers and civil servants in the workforce.
Sıdıka Aydın, Chairwoman of the Memur-Sen Women’s Commission, delivered the opening address, underscoring the sanctity of labor and Memur-Sen’s commitment to women’s issues. She emphasized, “As the number of women in the workforce continues to rise, so does their contribution to social life. Research indicates a strong correlation between increasing female presence in the workforce and reduced poverty, economic growth, and enhanced social relations. Furthermore, safeguarding women's labor is crucial for family sustainability, guiding future generations, and fostering a robust society. The family, as the most intrinsic unit guarding against societal corruption, relies on women to uphold its cohesion.” Fatma Zengin, Chairwoman of the Hak-İş Women’s Committee, highlighted their commitment to addressing issues and creating a better future as representatives of workers and civil servants. She emphasized their 48-year dedication to women-focused initiatives, including projects, training sessions, and publications across the country. Additionally, Zengin noted the integration of provisions prioritizing women and families in collective bargaining agreements and efforts to promote workplace harmony and prevent discrimination, violence, and harassment.
