Gök Attended the General Assembly of the International Dockworkers Council (IDC)
16.05.24, Thursday
The delegation from Memur-Sen attended the 2nd Mid-Term General Assembly of the International Dockworkers Council (IDC), held in Liverpool, England, from May 7th to 9th. The assembly saw the participation of 300 delegates from 25 countries, representing over 120,000 dockworkers worldwide.
Dr. Gök, delivering a speech at the general assembly, outlined a vision for a world centered on justice and labour, stating, “The inability of the dominant powers governing the world to even achieve a ceasefire in Gaza clearly demonstrates their failure. It is only through the labour world that peace, justice, and love, which the rulers have been massacring worldwide, especially in Gaza and Palestine, can be restored. As representatives of the labour force, we must expand our unity and solidarity, and reiterate our call for the peace, justice, and love that humanity needs.”
Continuing his speech, Dr. Gök emphasized, “Memur-Sen and ILC are aware of the issues faced by workers worldwide. IDC and ILC as international labour organizations, must lead the way in improving workers’ rights and establishing a more livable world. The solidarity of workers and all honorable people is what will once again establish peace, justice, and love in the world. I want to make a call to all conscientious and honorable people here. We must increase our efforts and expand our struggle to establish peace, justice, and love worldwide, particularly in Palestine and Gaza. Long live Memur-Sen, long live ILC, long live IDC... Long live our solidarity of peace, justice, love, and labour.”
The delegation from Memur-Sen, as part of an intensive two-day program, held bilateral consultation meetings with leaders of many unions from Australia to America, discussing issues related to the labour market.
Following the congress, Dr. Gök gave an interview to IDC TV and met with Rozanne Foyer, General Secretary of the Scottish Trade Union Congress (STUC), and members of the board, as well as Derek Thomson, Scotland Secretary of UNITE, in Glasgow, Scotland. During these meetings, discussions were held on topics related to the labour market, the internationalization of unions, and finding common solutions to common problems, while also providing information on the ILC process.
