International Symposium on “Globalization, Education and Trade Unions”

MEMUR-SEN’s largest affiliated trade union Educators’ Trade Union(ETU) organized an International Symposium on “Globalization, Education and Trade Unions” from August 31 to September 1, 2018 in Istanbul with participation of 175 trade union representatives and academicians from 77 countries. International Symposium entitled 'Globalization, Education and Trade Unions' was an opportunity to present and debate in depth the effects of globalization on education and the role of trade unions in this process.
International Symposium on “Globalization, Education and Trade Unions “organized by Educators’ Trade Union was held in İstanbul with participation of 175 trade union representatives from 77 countries. Mr. Ali Yalçın, President of the Memur-Sen Confederation and Educators’ Trade Union (Eğitim-Bir-Sen), in his opening address, focused on globalization and the strategies to be developed to meet its challenges.The first day of studies divided into two sessions started with the theme: "The effects of globalization on education". The session was moderated by Professor Dr. Mehmet Barca panellists are; Dr.Unifah Rosyidi, William Sossion, Martin Romer, Jamal Houssami and Yosra Saed Agil.
The second session dealt with the theme: “Globalization of Education and Trade Unionism". The session was moderated by Prof. Dr. Birol Akgün and was attended by the following panellists: Latif Selvi, Maria Amantayeva, Julio Durval Fuentes, Hisham Nimer Mosttafa.
The second day of the symposium was composed of 4 workshops on the following topics:
1- Globalization and Education
2- Equal opportunities in education and trade unions
3- Sustainability and education
4- New trends in the education sector and unions
The international symposium concluded with the adoption of the Final Declaration and the signing of bilateral cooperation agreements.
The symposium, which was attended by 175 trade union leaders from 77 countries, ended with a gift ceremony and the traditional family photo.
