Memur-sen produces a monthly study entitled: "Undernourishment and Poverty Levels in Turkey". According to the report, in December 2021, the undernourishment level for a family of 4 is 3,526 TL (~255 usd), while the poverty level is calculated at 10,119.8 TL (~735 usd).

Foodstuffs

According to the study conducted by the Memur-Sen confederation for the month of December 2021, the average price of foodstuffs increased by +10.6% compared to the previous month.

Among the most striking increases in December, we note the price of eggplant: +59%, cucumbers: +49.79%, wheat flour: +44.08 and margarine: +43.87%.However, among the most significant decreases note; the price of cauliflower: -29.47%, spinach: -21.42%, oranges: -16.31%, lettuce: -10.26% and turnips: -8.01%.

Transport

The study found an average increase of +10.04% in the price of transport. Among the most striking price increases compared to November 2021, we note that of the fares charged by airlines: +42.43%.

Education / Culture / Press

The study found an average price increase of +7.55% in the Education / Culture / Press category. Among the most important increases, we note the average price of stationery: +64.48% of games and toys for children: +35.07%. The study also revealed an increase in computer components: +21.82%.

Cleaning and personal hygiene articles

An average increase of +9% was observed in the price of cleaning and personal hygiene items. Among the most striking increases compared to November 2021, we note that of toilet paper with an increase of +24.21%.

Textile/ Clothing

The study reported an average increase of +7.35% in the Textile/Clothing category.

Among the most striking price increases, we note that of woolen textile articles: +30.64%, cotton textile articles: +16.71%, underwear: +15.27% and pants: +12.26%.

Health

While an average increase in the price of health items of: +5.02% was observed compared to the previous month, the most striking changes were noted in the prices of blood pressure measuring devices: +13.08% and optical frames: +10.35%.

Communication items

The average price of communication items increased by 5.33% compared to the previous month. The survey revealed an increase in the price of telephone articles: +17.7%. 

Environment/ housing/ building materials/ decoration

The study found an average increase of +12.88% in the price of heating materials and an increase in the price of rents: +1.65%.

Finally, the average price of building materials has also increased by: +9.29% compared to the previous month. Among the most important increases, we note that of the prices of windows (pvc): +21.64% and ceramic floor/wall tiles: +18.43%.
