Tonbul Attended the BSPSH General Assembly
25.10.24, Friday
Hacı Bayram Tonbul, Vice President of Memur-Sen, and his accompanying delegation participated in the 8th Ordinary General Assembly of BSPSH on October 19. In his speech at the General Assembly, Tonbul emphasized key points on working life, the concept of labor, and human rights.
Speaking at the General Assembly held in Tirana, Albania, Hacı Bayram Tonbul highlighted the special place of BSPSH and its President, Gezim Kalaja, not only in the trade union field but also for the entire Memur-Sen family. He stated, "The challenges facing the labor force are increasing and becoming more complex day by day. Climate change, conflicts, waves of migration, and economic crises are further deepening existing social injustices. These global issues are making the struggle for workers' rights even more difficult and threatening the living conditions of laborers. The tragic war in Gaza recently is one of the most painful examples of these issues. The war is not only devastating the people of the region but also deeply wounding the consciences of millions around the world. The suffering of these innocent people—babies, children, women, the elderly, deprived of all basic needs—once again underscores the urgent need for global social justice and peace. The pain of the civilians caught in the middle of the war and the children seeking refuge is a shared pain for all of us. As unions, we must be defenders not only of labor struggles but also of peace. Because without justice and peace, a sustainable future is impossible," he said.
"No system can exist without putting people at its center"
Continuing his speech, Tonbul highlighted the importance of unions, stressing that labor organizations are one of the most essential tools for protecting workers' rights and fighting for a just world order during challenging times. "We must all fight together, more strongly, to improve working conditions, ensure job security, advocate for fair wage policies, and establish social justice. We highly appreciate BSPSH's determined stance and achievements in this struggle. We are confident that it will remain one of the strongest advocates of these efforts in the future. As Memur-Sen, we will continue to stand in strong solidarity not only in the labor struggle but also in the defense of peace and justice. We will continue to build strong cooperation with workers at both the national and international levels. No system can exist without putting people at its center. Therefore, we must build a new world order that centers on people and ensures social justice. I once again greet you all with my warmest regards in this meaningful General Assembly and wish BSPSH a successful General Assembly process," he said.
After his speech, Hacı Bayram Tonbul held bilateral meetings with several delegations from various countries attending the congress. As part of his program in Albania, he also visited TİKA and the Maarif Foundation.
