26.11.24, Tuesday
A delegation from Memur-Sen, including Vice President Hüseyin Öztürk, Eğitim-Bir-Sen Vice President Abdülaziz Aydın, and Sağlık-Sen Vice President Abdullah Duman, visited the flood-affected areas of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Following the catastrophic floods on October 4, which claimed the lives of 26 Bosnians, the delegation traveled to the city center of Konjic and its villages to meet with the victims and deliver in-kind and monetary aid on behalf of Memur-Sen.
During the February 6, 2023 earthquakes centered in Kahramanmaraş, Turkish citizens benefitted from donations raised by Bosnian workers through a union-led campaign, which addressed urgent needs. In turn, Memur-Sen upheld the bonds of solidarity and extended a helping hand to flood-affected communities in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Accompanied by Selvedin Satorović, President of the Confederation of Independent Trade Unions of Bosnia and Herzegovina, as well as representatives from IHH and the Bosnian humanitarian organization Emmaus, the Memur-Sen delegation met with victims, assessed the impacted areas, and distributed in-kind and monetary aid to those in need.
The delegation also visited schools in the flood-affected areas, providing stationery supplies to students and financial assistance to the victims. Additionally, they donated household appliances, including refrigerators, washing machines, and televisions, to families in need.
As part of their visit, the delegation met with Konjic Mayor Osman Ćatić to gather information on the aftermath of the disaster.
"The People of Bosnia and Herzegovina Came to Turkey’s Aid on February 6"
Memur-Sen Vice President Hüseyin Öztürk emphasized the solidarity between Turkey and Bosnia and Herzegovina, highlighting the Bosnian people’s support during the February 6 earthquake, referred to as the "Disaster of the Century." He stated, “We stand by our Bosnian brothers and sisters not only in times of joy but also in moments of hardship. As a movement rooted in both labor and compassion, we will continue to promote solidarity against all crises threatening humanity, from wars to earthquakes, poverty to hunger, floods to pandemics.”
