The undernourishment level is 2,964 TL (~340 USD)
Memur-sen Confederation produces a monthly study entitled: "Undernourishment and Poverty Thresholds in Turkey". According to this study, the undernourishment threshold for a family of 4 persons is estimated at 2,964.30 TL (~340 usd), while the poverty threshold is 8,422.30 TL (~975 usd).
According to the study conducted by the Memur-Sen confederation for the month of September 2021, the average price of foodstuffs increased by +1.87% compared to August 2021.
Among the most striking increases in the month of September, we note the price of lettuce: +30.46%, eggplant: +21.64%, potatoes: +18.81% and peppers: +18.29:%. On the other hand, among the most significant decreases are: the price of lemon: -29.59%, cucumbers: -26.08% and peachs: -15.1%.
The study found an average decrease of -0.02% in the price of transport in September compared to August. Among the most striking price increases compared to August were school transport prices: +29.52%, tramway fares: +3.22%. However, a decrease was observed in the prices of vehicle rentals: -4.34% and in the prices of vehicle maintenance: -2.37%.
Education / Culture / Press
While the average price of educational materials increased by +2.41%, among the most significant increases were the average price of enrollment in private universities: +24.25%, newspapers and press articles: +16.82%. On the other hand, the study revealed a decline in the average price of cultural trips / tours of one week or more of -25.62% and toys: -0.71%.
Cleaning and personal care products
An average increase of +2.12% was observed in the prices of cleaning and personal care products. Among the most striking increases in September, we note that of shaving items, with an increase of +6.99%. However, a decrease of -2.58% was observed in the average price of cologne.
The study reported an average increase in the Textile/Clothing category of: +3.01% compared to last month. Among the most striking price increases were sweatshirts: +20.06%, pants: +7% and tracksuits: +6.43%. On the other hand, a decrease was observed in the average price of dresses: -2.22% and shirts: -1.84%.
While an average increase in the price of health items of +1.18% was observed compared to last month, the most striking changes were seen in the rates of X-ray +3.39% and ultrasound + 2.24%.
Compared to last month, the average price of communication items increased by: +0.6%. It was observed that the most striking changes in the prices of communication items were in the prices charged by internet operators with an increase of +2.02%.
Environment/ building materials/ housing/ decorative items
The study found an average increase of +6.13% in the prices of heating materials as well as an increase in the price of rents: +1.56%.
The study also found a 2.49% increase in the price of building materials. The most striking price changes in September were in the prices of floor and wall coverings with an average increase of 5.32%.
