“9th Open World Conference against War and Exploitation” initiated by International Liasion Committee (ILC) and organized by the PT of Algeria took place in Algeria. The 230 delegates from 42 countries took part in the conference. From Memur-Sen Confederation, Vice-Presidents Mehmet Emin Esen and Hacı Bayram Tonbul attended to the conference.
Mehmet Emin Esen gave a speech regarding the current Palestine and Al-Quds as well as the situation of workers and the oppressed peoples in the world. Drawing attention to the problems in working life during his speech, Esen noted that solutions of the problems are possible by increasing the work of the countries of the world on labour issues. We witness a problem dismissing the right of labour on the point of sharing welfare.
Stating that he participated in the program as a representative of Memur-Sen which is an honourable struggle, having an important position in the field of trade unionism and has more than one million members, "I greet you with respect and love on behalf of myself and each of our members, said Esen.
Unfortunately, we are at a point where labour organizations are confined to the capital-centric definition at this point and we are witnessing a problem dismissing the right of labour on the point of sharing welfare. The problem is great, "he said.
We have to get to the root of the problem
While the cause of the crisis we live in between the production and the finance is one-to-hundred ratio, the mission of labour movements is objectivisation and commodification. As you also see that at least one third of the world is in conflict. If we want these conflicts to end; if we demand that the prosperity be shared fairly, we have to get to the root of the problem. The first step is to examine the definitions of the modern world. The theory of 'scarce resources, unlimited needs’ is an example for it. This theory underpins the unjust system. We in fact look for the justice. We want to put the justice in the center and make our definitions accordingly. If you put the justice in the center, the problem of scarce resources would be solved. Because, the needs are limited. This truth will not change even if the system develops very different theories to conceal this truth.
By the spirit of solidarity, a new world based on labour can be established
Stating that a new fair world order based on labour should be established, Esen emphasized that this can be achieved by the spirit of solidarity. In these and similar meetings we must keep these concepts alive. Lastly, Esen called on all NGOs and participants to fight back against Trump's decision to formally recognize Al-Quds as the capital of Israel.
