The Vice-President of the Memur-Sen confederation, Mehmet Emin Esen, participated in the symposium entitled "The Role of Trade Unions and Confederations in the Struggle of Palestinian Workers" organized by the General Confederation of Workers' Unions of Gaza.
On the occasion of the symposium organised by the General Confederation of Workers' Unions of Gaza, the General Confederation of Iraqi Workers (GFIW), the International Confederation of Arab Trade Unions (ICATU), the National Union of Moroccan Workers (UNTM), the General Confederation of Lebanese Workers (CGTL), the Tunisian Labour Organisation (OTT) and the Hak-İş Confederation (Turkey) were also present.
The vice-president of the Memur-Sen confederation, Mr. Mehmet Emin Esen, said that workers around the world were seriously affected by the coronavirus epidemic: "This epidemic reveals the true face of the neoliberal system based on exploitation, occupation, conflicts and the weakening of labour movements around the world.
Highlighting the Israeli occupation of the West Bank and Gaza Strip, Esen added: "Since the beginning of the occupation and illegal colonization, Israel has caused immense suffering to Palestinians and deprived them of their basic rights. Border crossings are closed at the whim of the Israeli authorities, and aid is provided only in dribs and drabs. Palestinian workers were being arbitrarily dismissed under the pretext of the epidemic, and the economic situation of the Palestinians was worsening day by day. »
Mr. Esen said that the trade union movements and organizations in solidarity with the Palestinian cause should support Palestinian workers more than ever and said that Memur-Sen will always be present in this struggle.
