International Congress on Labour, Digitalization, and Social Justice Congress Concludes

Hosted by Memur-Sen, the International Congress on Labour, Digitalization, and Social Justice Congress concluded with the participation of 200 trade union leaders from 50 confederations representing 41 countries and 3 international organizations.
The second day of the congress began with the attendance of Türkiye’s Minister of Labour and Social Security, Vedat Işıkhan. Emphasizing the transformative impact of the digital age on every aspect of life, Minister Işıkhan noted that concepts such as labour, production, and social justice -which transcend borders-remain essential to global human values.
Praising Memur-Sen’s alignment with international norms and its principled stance in favor of national will and democratic values, Işıkhan acknowledged its key contributions to advancing labour rights and freedoms in Türkiye. He further stressed the importance of international cooperation in shaping the future of work, noting that in today’s global landscape, shared efforts around labour, justice, and human dignity are more critical than ever. He closed by extending his best wishes for the upcoming May 1 International Workers' Day.
Ali Yalçın: “We Must Not Stop Until Fair Distribution is Achieved”
Speaking on behalf of Memur-Sen, President Ali Yalçın addressed the responsibilities imposed by digital transformation and Türkiye’s progress in addressing the needs of the labour force from improving employment opportunities for vulnerable groups to integrating platform workers. He highlighted key milestones, including the tenfold increase in the number of public servants with disabilities since 2002 and significant reforms such as the permanent employment of previously contracted and subcontracted public workers.
Panel on “The Impact and Transformation of Digitalization on Trade Union Structures”
Following the speeches, a panel moderated by ADS Secretary General Roland Herman Ignacio explored the structural impact of digitalization on trade unions. Speakers included Memur-Sen Vice President Hamza Öksüz, Eğitim-Bir-Sen Vice President Mesut Öner, and Sandra Susana Felix Salgado, member of the Executive Board of USI.
The congress concluded with the adoption of a joint declaration, underscoring the shared commitment of participating organizations to advancing labour rights, social justice, and inclusive digital transformation.
