The year 2022 for public employees starts with a loss of purchasing power of 5.58%.

As the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK) has reported an inflation of 36.08% for the year 2021, the decision to increase the salaries of public employees by 30.5% in the first half of 2022 is far, far away from the expectations of public employees for whom the year is starting out quite painfully.
President Ali Yalçın, who has also issued numerous written statements on social networks, said, "According to the collective agreement, the loss of purchasing power suffered by public employees must be taken into account in the calculation of their salaries. The issue has been put on the agenda, but the increase has remained below inflation! We reiterate our call to the government to defer to the collective agreement.
Adding that, "It is more than necessary to curb the fluctuations in the economy as soon as possible to reduce inflation," Yalçin concluded, "A return to price stability is our greatest wish, but making up for the accumulated loss of purchasing power is a matter that requires quick resolution."
