Memur-sen prepares a monthly study entitled: "Undernourishment and Poverty Thresholds in Turkey". According to this report of January 2022, the undernourishment threshold for a family of 4 is TL 3,809.3, while the poverty threshold is TL 10,939.1.
According to the study conducted by the Memur-Sen Confederation for the month of January 2022, the average price of foodstuffs increased by +7.51% compared to the previous month.
Among the most striking increases in January were the prices of aubergines: +54.95%, peppers: +54.18%, courgettes: +44.92%, mint: +39.17% and salted biscuits: 38,88%. However, among the most important decreases were the prices of bananas: -35.77%, ice cream: -13.07%, gherkins: -11.91%, oranges: -11.41% and ready-made meat dishes: -11,29%.
The survey found an average increase of +9.5% in transport prices. Among the most striking price increases compared to December 2021 were the price of intercity bus fares: +55.25% and motorway tolls: +54.21%. The study also noted a drop in the prices charged by airlines: -5.62%.
Education / Culture / Press
The study found an average price increase of +6.02% in the Education / Culture / Press category. Among the most significant increases was the average price of stationery: +21.06%. The survey also revealed a fall in the average price of cultural items: -18.5%.
Cleaning and personal hygiene articles
An average increase of +6.11% was observed in the price of cleaning and personal care articles. Among the most striking increases compared to December 2021 were for baby nappies, with an increase of +34.55%, and for hair care products: +25.36%. However, a decrease of -17.98% was observed in the average price of cologne products.
The survey reported an average price increase of +6.72% in the Textile/ Clothing category.
The most striking price increases were for socks: +26.03%, shirts: +22.31% and sports shoes: +19.47%. However, a decrease of -4.78% was observed in the price of jumpers.
While an average price increase of +6.23% was observed for health items compared to the previous month, the most striking changes were observed in the prices of dental fillings: +23.83%.
Average prices for communication articles increased by +6.19% compared to the previous month. The survey revealed an increase in the prices of telephone articles: +53.67%.
Environment/ housing/ building materials/ decoration
The survey found an average increase of +11.54% in the price of heating materials and an increase in the price of rents: +3.12%.
Among the most important increases, the price of electricity rose by 69.67%.
