Ali Yalçın, President of Memur-Sen, who continues his visits to the Memur-Sen provincial representations across the country, participated in the trade union activities organized by the Memur-Sen representation of the Hakkari province where he particularly welcomed the increase in new membership that plays a key role in strengthening Memur-Sen confederation.
While highlighting the importance of the social advances achieved by the Memur-Sen Confederation for the biennium 2022-2023, Yalçın welcomed the increase in the bonus reserved for unionized public employees from 536 TL to 1600 to TL/year and also welcomed the 18,313 new memberships recorded during the month of September last year, which play a key role in the strengthening of the Memur-Sen Confederation. "I would like to extend a warm welcome to all of our new members who have joined us," he stated.
Recalling the many efforts and sacrifices of public employees who saw their purchasing power fall drastically over the period of the previous collective agreements that Memur-Sen had refused to co-sign two years earlier, Yalçın commended the benefits resulting from the current collective agreement and especially from the gains achieved through the branch agreements that have raised public employees' salaries by 32-40% for the next two years, hailing "a workable compromise," which includes, among other things, "provisions on improvements in terms of allowances and social benefits. ", he said.
However, pointing to the discrepancies between collective bargaining in the public and private sectors that is at the heart of the difficulties of wage bargaining, Yalçın lamented the insufficient legal timeframe for collective bargaining: "Due to the lack of time, most of the negotiation points do not have time to be addressed and as a result, the entire negotiation process is affected to the detriment of workers. "The purpose of collective bargaining is to ensure social justice and the conclusion of quality agreements requires time to negotiate, this conception of the right to collective bargaining must be challenged and that is why the law No: 4688, must absolutely be amended, "he said.
Sharing his conclusions, Ali Yalçın notably hailed "a great trade union victory" regarding severance bonuses and index rates for retirement pensions that will now reach their maximum ceiling.
