04.06.21, Friday
Ali Yalçın, President of Memur-Sen, spoke live on BBN Türk TV about his call to form a common front with the Kamu-Sen and KESK confederations in order to start the future collective bargaining negotiations that will begin in August under the best auspices.
Ali Yalçın said that he wanted to strengthen the partnership between Memur-Sen and the various trade union actors in the public sector in view of the future collective bargaining negotiations, which will determine the financial and social rights of more than six million civil servants and civil service pensioners.
Stating that acting in unison in the process of determining the salaries and the expectations of public sector employees will improve the financial situation of public employees, Yalçın added: "We had sent letters to the Kamu-Sen and KESK confederations last Monday with a view to forming a common front to best conduct the future collective negotiations. Also, in order to discuss the possibilities of a common and concerted strategy to promote the rights and demands of public service workers, I had a telephone conversation with Önder Kahveci, President of Kamu-Sen and Mehmet Bozgeyik, Co-President of KESK," he said.
Memur-Sen had refused to validate the collective bargaining negotiations that covered the period 2019-2021, recalling that the wage index proposed by the government had been validated as it is by arbitration verdict, Yalçın continued in these terms: "Despite our repeated warnings, it is clear that today, exarcerbated by the effects of the pandemic on Turkey's economy, civil servants and civil service pensioners are facing one of the most brutal contractions in their purchasing power. In this regard, the top priority is to do everything possible to ensure that public sector employees receive a fairer salary that allows them to live with dignity," he said.
