Labour Day International Online Conference

This year International Labour Day was online. To mark the International Labour Day, and to point out the importance of solidarity, to honour the millions of employees in public healthcare systems around the world, Memur-Sen lead an online action with the labour Day International Online Conference.
The Coronavirus pandemic has created an unprecedented threat for global public health and economy affecting working life and the livelihood of people. As the virus spreads and infects the population carrying the burden in too many countries, large number of the workforce are absent at any one time. In the light of this situation, in many countries, this May Day unfortunately celebrated by a very vast majority of workers, public servants and people from their homes across the world.
Therefore, in order to point out the importance of solidarity, to honour the millions of employees in public healthcare systems around the world, Memur-Sen lead an online action with the labour Day International Online Conference.
The conference started with Memur-Sen President’s opening remarks. In the conference Yalçın said that “In fact, in such extraordinary times, it is necessary to remain prudent about both the process and beyond it. We believe that despite global lockdown, we need to maintain a strong voice in order to keep our agenda alive and express the strong word of solidarity and labour under all circumstance. At this point, we are expanding our capacity from the first day of this pandemic, and we are working hard to keep the struggle alive.” The video conference system enables us to communicate with you.”
In the conference the panellists discussed The World of Labour During the Pandemic, The Post-Pandemic World of Work. The conference moderated by Mr. Numan Özcan – Director of ILO Office for Turkey.
Following the online conference, Memur-Sen Confederations published a joint international May Day Statement.
